Chocolate Gravy: A Christmas morning treat!

Oh yes! You can have chocolate for breakfast!

Sweet and smooth, chocolate gravy is just as good as it sounds! In my estimation, it’s best when poured over warm, fluffy and flaky biscuits.

My grandma used to make it. If you’re an Appalachian, or from a nearby area, chances are, chocolate gravy is a familiar and favorite treat in your family, too!

How to make it...

Sift together three tablespoons of cocoa, sugar, ¼ cup of flour, and salt into a large skillet.

Whisking continuously, add warm milk (or half & half)  in a slow, steady stream and continue whisking until smooth.

Cook over medium heat. Stir continuously the gravy coats your stirring utensils (most folks in our area use a wooden spatula) until the gravy is thick enough to coat it. Usually takes around 8 minutes.

You can ladle it over warm biscuits and pancakes, or even place some in a dipping bowl to dunk your muffins, cookies (or whatever you prefer) into.

Enjoy!

D,

This is still a fav!

Some elders also call this dish, Poor Man's Pudding. I prefer Chocolate Gravy, lol! Sounds as good as it tastes, lol!

Great post for Christmas, and a great dish all year 'round!
